Meet Attorney Melissa Marteeny

Early Experience

Attorney Melissa MarteenyHouston family law attorney Melissa Marteeny began following in Kathryn's footsteps in elementary school, when she wrote on the back of Kathryn's business cards, "Hire me, I'm better!" She began working for her mother at the age of nineteen when she learned about family law and estate planning before even starting law school. She worked during her summer and winter breaks, which eventually expanded to semesters in law school. During law school, she clerked for Disability Rights Texas, where she helped with Medicaid appeals and cases involving housing discrimination.

She also received an opportunity to intern for Aditus Foundation, a European non-governmental organization in Malta, for seven weeks. There, she helped attorneys assist clients seeking asylum, and also in holding events to inform the public and celebrate human rights. In between law school and licensure, she volunteered at Catholic Charities helping complete applications for naturalization or to attain work permits under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

She later earned her Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law, where she participated with various organizations. Her area of focus falls within Texas Family Law, Estate Planning, and Probate. She is certified for attorney ad litem appointment. She was also recently mentioned in Houston Chronicle's People in Business .
