Summer is usually one of the best times to be a kid. School is out, and
children may have more of an opportunity to spend time with their noncustodial
parent if their custodial parent is still working. Houston has plenty
of options for parents who have custody of their kids for the day and
want to take their children somewhere special. Here is a list of some
fun places to take your child for the day.
If you don’t mind the drive, Galveston can be an excellent place
to take the kids. Escape the Texas heat by traveling to the beach, building
sandcastles, and teaching your children how to swim. The Pleasure Pier
in Galveston also offers the benefit of an amusement park if your kids
feel like taking a break from swimming. Take a walk and also search for
the tree sculptures in the East End Historic District.
The Children’s Museum of Houston
One of the newest attractions in the city is a museum specifically geared
toward kids. It is rated the number 1 children’s museum in the United
Parents magazine. It boasts 90,000 square feet of interactive and engaging bilingual
exhibits for children, ages 0 to 12. Free Family Nights happen every Thursday
from 5 to 8 p.m. as a courtesy of The Wortham Foundation, Inc.
Space Center Houston
If your kids are interested in space, they might enjoy the rich history
of space exploration offered at the center. Kids Space Place was created
for children of all ages who are interested in learning more about space
and the experience of astronauts. The center also offers a behind-the-scenes
look at NASA for kids ages 14 and up on the Level Nine Tour.
If your kids love animals, the zoo might be the perfect place to take them.
Considered one of the 10 best zoos in the United States, the zoo features
a special children’s zoo and an aquarium. Additionally, the Natural
Encounters facility gives kids an up close experience with animals.
One of the largest and most diverse water parks is SplashTown. It has 40
acres of water rides and swimming options for children and adults alike.
If your kids are thrill seekers, they’ll enjoy the enormous slides
like the Tornado and the Stingray Racer.
